Business Park of Courcelles
Launch of the project
The club of company of Courcelles marked its interest to join an initiative of collective management of the environment from the beginning of the project Life-SMIGIN, in November, 2006.
The individual visits of companies made during the first half of the year 2007 allowed to raise the problems of management of the environment on the park. So, 19 companies were visited and marked their intention to participate in the project. Further to these visits and to the meeting of all the local actors that a global report was realized. It advances the collective actions having a potential on the park. A display of the results to companies was organized in October, 2007.
Then, companies were again met in an individual way to raise their interest for the proposed collective actions. The priority of implementation of the actions was determined by the motivation of companies.
Implemented actions on the park
Actions "Energy"
- Energy Trainings
A first training was organized on March 20th, 2008. The purpose of this training was multiple: allow companies to understand better and to analyze their energy bills, to give tracks to companies to realize the monitoring of their energy consumptions, present the interest of a reflection on the choice and the organization of the lighting in company, offer tracks of rational use of the energy in companies. The second training took place May 8th, 2008 and approached another subject mattering in company: the heating of the big spaces and the impact of loading docks on the management of the temperature in the industrial halls. - Relighting
It is further to the first energy training that three companies decided to dash in a project of relighting, the purpose being to minimize energy consumptions inherent to the lighting. Three companies received persons providers' visit specialized in this domain. The objective was to lead together the same approach while leaving to companies the individual choice of the provider. Two companies have already proceeded to the necessary modifications. The third pursues its approach. - Organizing by the monitoring of the consumptions
The advisers in energy of the Walloon Union of Enterprises developed Excel spreadsheets allowing the easy follow-up of low- and high-voltage invoices of electricity, gas and fuel oil. Since March 2008, four companies received the visit of a Life adviser to help them in implementing the monitoring.
Actions "Waste"
- Joint waste collection
The purpose of this project is to improve the sorting of the valorisable waste in companies, this sorting being facilitated by the pooling of the streams of waste for the same provider. The approach was launched in February, 2008 by the sending of a common call for tender. Visits were organized in companies so that the providers can give an offer by knowing the profile of the concerned companies. The providers handed their offer and companies met to discuss it in April, 2008. Companies not having known how to agree on the choice of the common provider, the project stopped. In November 2008, at the request of the president of the club of companies, the initiatives started again. New offers were proposed by the providers and companies chose a provider. A meeting with this person and companies took place on June 24th, 2009. This meeting allowed companies and the provider to understand better the constraints and the expectations of each. The contractualization between every company and the provider is under progress. - Collection of cartridges and toners for the benefit of the clinic-clowns
In a company of Courcelles, cartridges were taken back by the clinic-clowns (www.clinicclowns.be). This association aims at animating the children hospitalized by clowns' shows. During a meeting between several persons in charge of companies, this company showed of its experience and convinced the others to recycle their cartridges and toners for the benefit of this association. Henceforth 7 companies benefit from this service.
Actions "Mobility"
- Access to the park in public transportation
The preliminary survey realized with the workers of the park within the framework of the Life-SMIGIN project revealed the interest of a more deepened study for the creation of an access to the park by bus. The TEC so launched a complementary survey at the beginning of 2008, which ended in the same conclusions. A project of line is for the study with the TEC-Charleroi. This line would be launched in January, 2010. - Eco-driving
The eco-driving is a mode of more flexible and more preventive driving which allows savings of fuel and decreases the wear of the vehicle as well as the number of accidents. The possibilities of trainings were presented on May 29th, 2009 to the club of companies. The interested companies received a summary table of the offers of the training companies. The objective is to train groups of drivers of various companies, not to monopolize all the drivers of the same company at the same time. - Referencing GPS
The Life advisers went through the streets of the park with a GPS to verify the referencing of these streets. The abnormalities were sent to the referencing companies TéléAtlas and Navteq.
Actions "Landscaping"
- Differentiated maintenance of the green spaces
The municipality of Courcelles trained in March 2008 its workers in the differentiated maintenance of the green spaces. These new skills should be used on the park, in particular for the maintenance of the neighbouring vegetation of the pond of thunderstorm which presents an interesting biodiversity.
Actions "Water"
- Collective Management of industrial waste water
The purpose of this project is to bring a local solution of the waste water treatment of the food-processing companies of the park. Indeed, one of them possesses an oversize water-treatment plant whereas the others have to make at present evacuate their industrial waste water as waste, by truck. The concerned companies met repeatedly to study the possibilities of forwarding waste water to the water-treatment plant by pipes. The works are in progress.
Feed-back of the project leader
" The first met difficulty was the obtaining of documents necessary for the writing of the global report and the action plan. Some companies supplied their invoices quickly, but for most of them, this information was never communicated to us. Afterward, the proposed actions aroused the interest of the heads of companies who then followed the approach. The club of companies of Courcelles in particular facilitated the development of the project. The meetings which are held every 2 months gather a majority of heads of companies of the park of economic activity. These have the firm intention to solve their common problems together, to revitalize their companies by means of concerted actions and of synergies. It is for me the opportunity to launch new projects, to subject ideas and to discuss points of view of each. Furthermore, every time it is necessary, the president makes sure that he convenes outside persons concerned by the met problem or the current project (representative of the telecom service provider for telephony problems, representing of an eco-driving company to present the eco-driving, etc.) ".
