Lanscape | Action sheet P1 - Diagnosis

Landscaping Diagnosis

Objective and interest:

  • Estimate the landscaped and ecological quality of the public and\or private green spaces to direct the actions to the felt needs.
  • Raise awareness among managers of the ecological / environmental interest of landscaping.
  • Identify problems common to several companies (on private spaces).
  • Develop a continuous improvement approach with a gradual reorientation

Steps

1. Visit green spaces

The project leader visits the green spaces -public and\or private- to see the landscape already in place, estimate the water management, judge the cleanliness, inquire about the type of maintenance of green spaces, etc.

Through the evaluation map on the scale of the private plots (see tools) and the evaluation map on the scale of the park of activities (see tools), the project leader makes an inventory of following items:

  • types of plantations ;
  • maintenance of green spaces ;
  • buildings in harmony with existing landscaped features ;
  • lighting ;
  • permeability of surfaces;
  • vegetal walls ;
  • roofs and fences;
  • cleanliness ;
2. Presenting the report to the company / the manager

The project leader returns to the firm or the manager of public green spaces to present his report. It contains advices related to his observations. In the case of companies, it also outlines tracks of collective actions.

Obstacles

  • The business managers rarely know the environmental interest of landscaping and underestimate the importance of every plot of land.
    Solution: at the presentation of his report, the project leader reminds the benefits of quality landscaping: corporate image, well-being of the employees and productivity, reduction of maintenance costs. He also reminds the importance of the ecological grid (see glossary).
